Kayleigh's Playlists

God bless the iPOD is all I have to say to start with. Music has always been a big part of my life. I began training as a classical violinist at 7 years of age, and gradually picked up other instruments along the way. As my bio states, I made a name for myself as a teenager in the classical music scene, and everyone who knew me was downright shocked when I didn't major in music in college. I've always had three loves in my life - music, writing, and the law.

I almost always have music on no matter what I'm doing. My tastes are wide, and my playlists huge. I create a playlist for each book I write, based upon the music that inspires me as I'm writing it. It would be impossible for me to list them all, so instead I will give you some of the songs and artists that appear repeatedly, no matter what the occasion or the mood.

The Sisters of Mercy - anything by The Sisters is a permanent staple. From their early stuff to Vision Thing, to their bootlegs and demo tapes, I have it all.
Bauhaus
HIM
Nocturne - Happy, Whore
Marilyn Manson - the older stuff, before he decided he was god's gift to the music revolution. Tourniquet, Sweet Dreams, Organ Grinder
My Chemical Romance
Peter Murphy - Fall With Your Knife, Blinded Like Saul, Cuts You Up, Indigo Eyes
Rhianna - Umbrella
Blue Stone
Enigma
Cirque du Soleil - Alegria
Ministry - Bloodlines
Tiamat - Cain
Lacuna Coil - Swamped, Heaven's a Lie
Razed in Black - Oh My Goth, Master
Daniel Ash - Come Alive
David Arkenstone
Velvet Revolver - Slither
Anders Manga
Afro Celt Sound System - Release
Akira Yamaoka
The Smashing Pumpkins
David Bowie
Depeche Mode
Diva Destruction - Heathcliffe
Delerium
Duran Duran
Evanescence
Genitorturers
Joy Division
KMFDM - These Boots (Were Made For Walkin)
Michael Tufo
Muse
Nightwish - Wish I Had an Angel
Nine Inch Nails
Nosferatu
Our Lady Peace - Clumsy
Rob Zombie
Soundgarden
Switchblade Symphony
Tears for Fears
The Doors
Tool
Tori Amos
Type O Negative
U2
VAST - Pretty When You Cry

Music & Writing

I used to listen to music whenever I sat down to write. Actually, there was a time when I couldn't write in silence. I needed music in the background to think straight. But after my daughter was born, I took her nap times as the opportunity to write, so it had to be done in silence. And you know what happened? I got used to it.

Nowadays, even though I mostly write when I'm at home alone, I find myself (still) doing so in silence. No background music at all. Though I usually play songs before, after or just during the day. There's a style of music that gets my muse tingling and inspation flowing. It has to be hard music. You know the type, right? And during the last few years I've realised that bands like Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Hinder, Evanescence, The Goo Goo Dolls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, and Matchbox Twenty, have done just that. And I've added a new band to the mix. Thirty Seconds to Mars. Man, do they get my mind going. I love their sound, and look forward to getting a bunch of inspiration from them in the future.

So the days of having loud music pounding away while I'm actually typing might have faded... but the inspiration that music provides for me, never will!

Murder, Gods, and Magic Photographs This Month At Aphrodite's Apples!

A Corpse for Cozumel

Sultry days and steamy nights—Cozumel. It was a simple enough plan but when murder and men get tossed into the mix, Adie Sturm’s life gets scrambled. Her missing friend is murder suspect “numero uno” but Adie knows different. When she starts digging, she finds that the dots connect straight to multi-millionaire Diego Alvarez and his company, Royal Investments in Cozumel.

In her investigation, Adie becomes a sniper’s target, narrowly escaping to the safety of her hotel and just as she thinks her troubles are over, she’s forced to use her karate skills to survive. For a woman that’s been burned before, enlisting an ex-boyfriend’s help isn’t the smartest move. Adie’s emotions somersault with Wolf, a man like chocolate…creamy, rich, and sinfully delicious. She doesn’t mind having his expertise in or out of the bedroom but she follows her own drummer when it comes to the situation with the drop-dead sexy Alvarez. Her gut instinct tells her Alvarez is innocent of murder. What she’s not prepared for is the intricate web of seduction he spins, all for her.

As the fierce El Norte reeks havoc on Cozumel, Adie is swept away into a dangerous cycle of events that spiral out of control before she chooses the man that captures her heart and finds the murderer.

Ares...God of War

Ares, God of war, all powerful and a warrior for thousands of years. Now in modern times mortals have forgotten the ways of old and gods have been placed in the history books. Ares long for battles and he is tired of watching from the sideline as the world wages its wars. Until he meets a modern day crime fighter that takes on the battles on the street alone. She fights for the weak and defenseless and she completely captivates Ares. One night as she fights she is killed, and Ares ask his brother to put her soul back into her body.

Sasha Green knew one minute she was fighting with a group of thugs and then her soul was out of her body. The night gets stranger when she finds herself in the underworld staring at Hades and his brother, Ares, who is telling her that she is dead. Her soul can be replaced in her body, but for a price. She must let Ares fight with her and, oh yes, she must become his concubine. Sasha has no other choice but to accept his offer if she wants to be alive once again. But she is not going to go down that path willingly.

From the very beginning passion and heat flare between the god of war and the mortal woman who he stands with to fight the evils of the street. Soon there is something neither of them expected…love, and danger as well. Will a mortal and a god be able to fit love in between battles and all the obstacles they must overcome?

What does Desirée Lee do for fun?

My hobby is quilting. I don't get around to doing it as often as I would like, especially now since I moved recently and haven't set my sewing room back up yet.

Here are a few things I have pictures of. Most of my work is packed in boxes right now so I can't get any new photos until I shuffle things in the sewing room around and make room to unpack them.

This was a wallhanging I made for the theme "Springtime."

This is my starter block for a miniature Round Robin. This block is 7", I think.

This is my starter block for a much larger Round Robin. This block is 18". I don't have this one back yet so I have no clue what the other participants have added.

This is a set of blocks I made for a Row Robin. I wish I had a good photo of the full set of blocks I got back. They're phenomenal. I was in awe when I saw what the other ladies had added.

Writing takes up more time than quilting but this is what I use as my diversion when my mind just won't wrap around books.

See you there!

Author at last!

The thrill of seeing my book "Sarah's Choice" published a month ago has still not faded. And as I see a review or two trickle in, I am overwhelmed with a sense of accomplishment and pride. Thank you AA for giving me the opportunity to get my writing out there!
Working on my second book I'm still somewhat in a daze over the whole publishing gig. I never thought I'd do an e-book. But it's been wonderful for me! And I really liked the idea of the galleria. I was fascinated talking to the other reviewers, writers and publishers.
So far I'm hooked!

A Big Hello to Everyone!

Ok Heather, thanks for this lil spot on the Web - sure appreciate it. Thanks also to y'all (esp. Ang) for a wonderful book cover. Don't have much to say today - except that I am so swamped with work it's a wonder I even remember to breathe! Whoever said that thing about "idle hands" surely needs to be tarred and feathered :-D What I would give right now for an afternoon lying on the beach sipping a Coconut Rum cocktail and watching the scenery. Ah well...can't complain though. Things are going great especially as "Mile High to Heaven" is due for release VERY soon and who knows what will come of this fantastic adventure :-D Thanks to everyone at Aphrodite's Apples for making it happen! It's been a wild ride that got me here but don't regret any minute of it. I look forward most of all to meeting all the other AA authors. I also hope the readers will find my blogging interesting and fun. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone - and glad to be part of the AA family!

Eldritch Legacy reader's poll

Next year, I'll be starting on the Eldritch Legacy backstories. I currently have three titles in mind for the Eldritch companion series, "Once Upon a Legacy". I'm taking a poll to see which Eldritch family member my readers would like to see featured first. (These books won't be numbered, so I won't necessarily be writing them in chronological order.) Just click on the link to be taken to the poll with accompanying summaries for each choice:

http://pub2.bravenet.com/vote/vote.php?usernum=170989022&cpv=2

Please just vote once for your preferred Eldritch so I can get an accurate and honest idea of what my Legacy readers want! Thanks! :)

My New Love: Mayan Chocolate Ice Cream!

OMG! This stuff is awesome! Haagen-Dazs lives totally up to their slogan: "made like no other"! The ice cream's inspired by the original chocolate crafted by the Mayans more than 2500 years ago. They blend rich dark chocolate with a hint of cinnamon for a magical Mayan offering --and it's sooo deliciously decadent!

When you're in the ice cream aisle, be sure to treat yourself to Haagen-Dazs' Mayan chocolate --it's totally worth it!

Hugs,
